About the Author

My name is Tim Schmale. I was born and still live in Berlin, Germany. I am a certified psychological counselor and have undergone extensive training in various therapeutic approaches under my mentor, Dr. Joseph Dillard. Additionally, I studied psychology at Humboldt University in Berlin, where I increasingly focused on loneliness and founded groups dedicated to loneliness intervention and the development of social skills. Over the years, helping people overcome loneliness has become one of my life priorities.

Beyond my clinical expertise, I have also experienced loneliness personally. For most of my life, I experienced the bliss of a fulfilled social life, but I also went through years overshadowed by grief and loneliness. I know the pain, sorrow, and hopelessness that can accompany loneliness—the feeling of not being understood or seen, not belonging to any group, yearning for stable relationships, and longing to share life’s experiences with others. I know the days when you haven’t spoken to anyone and the first contact with people feels awkward and stilted. I know the frustration, self-doubt, anger, and boredom. But I got out of it, rebuilt my social life, and regained a healthy approach to family, friends, and intimacy. However, I had help with this, and I hope you can find help here, too.
